Summer 2011 Garden

I have planted some local heirloom tomatoes this year, they are supposed to do well in the heat. The squash has really taken off. I have yellow and gray planted.

New Aquaponic set up and hydro tomatoes doing well!

The tomatoes have taken off and done well in the top drip and deep water culture buckets. The ones I had in the ebb and flow didn't do as well and so I will be converting those systems to top drip ones.
The aquaponic setup is an Emily's Garden base with fish water that is pumped up to it with koi in the tote. So far the only problem is a plugged line that goes back to the fish tote. I put a filter over the drain and it fixed the problem.

Hydroponics Craze

Winter veggie harvest, beets, turnips and onions

The cold winter snap we had followed by the record heat, prompted the winter veggies to start bolting. So I picked most all of the beets, turnips and kale. I still have swiss chard I will pick soon.

Wicking Table

This is a soiless wicking table I decided to try. Growing with a batting like material as a base + fertilizer and then top it off with tree mulch. There is a 5 gallon bucket inverted with a small hole in it for water drainage. The idea behind it came from rooftop gardening sites.
